IBM Systems Director Transition Manager for HP Systems
Insight Manager is
an IBM Systems Director plug-in.
Using Transition Manager,
you can discover systems that are being managed by HP Systems
Insight Manager and
smoothly make the transition to managing the systems in IBM Systems Director. Transitioned
systems can be either IBM and
non-IBM hardware. After the transition is complete, you can manage
the systems using IBM Systems Director which
can provide superior systems-management features for IBM hardware. Additionally, you can still manage
the systems using HP Systems
Insight Manager.

This redpaper provides a brief introduction to Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Fibre Channel over Convergence Enhanced Ethernet (FCoCEE).
Short introduction taken from the redpaper: It is a matter of fact that Fibre Channel (FC) is the prevalent technology standard in the Storage Area Network (SAN) data center environment. This has spawned a multitude of FC based solutions that have paved the way for high performance, high availability, and the highly efficient transport and management of data. Without going into any great historical depth, the arrival of FC did solve many of the problems that existed in the data center. These problems included distance, performance, bandwidth, and overhead issues. The manner in which FC is implemented and its inherent functionality is designed to mitigate against the loss of data, against network congestion, and at the same time provide a highly available and high performing network.

Question How to migrate from RDM 4.40.1 to TPM for OS Deployment 7.1 (IBM Systems Director Edition and standalone)?
Answer The attached guide provides support and information for Remote Deployment Manager (RDM) 4.40.1 users that are migrating to Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment (TPM for OSD) 7.1.
It gives step by step procedures to build from scratch new deployment systems with TPM for OSD 7.1 and to migrate legacy RDM 4.40.1 data. It covers both IBM Systems Director Edition (TPM for OSD - ISDE 7.1) that integrates with Director 6.1 and the standalone version (TPM for OSD 7.1).

The IBM Systems Director Server Migration Utility / Tool provides functionality to migrate data from servers running the IBM Director 5.20 release to servers running the IBM Systems Director Server 6.1.0 release.
To import data to an IBM Systems Director 6.1.0 server, the server features must be updated to IBM Systems Director Core Manager service patch 2 (6.1.0.2) or greater, IBM Systems Director System x and BladeCenter Manager service patch 2 (6.1.0.2), and all other available IBM Systems Director patches at the 6.1.0.1 level or greater.

BLADE Network Technologies, Inc. (BLADE), a leader in data centre networking, has announced that its 1-10 Gigabit Ethernet switches can now be equipped with VMready - a virtualisation solution that automates the enterprise data centre for dynamic 'live' migration of virtual machines (VMs).
Data centre architects can use BLADE's VMready switches to overcome network-based obstacles. The inability for security policies to move in concert with the VM is inhibiting broader adoption of server virtualization in the enterprise data centre. VMready watches the Virtual Machine environment to ensure that when a live VM moves from one physical host to another, the destination network has been prepared in advance - preserving essential security, access and performance policies.
