Earlier this week Intel held a press conference to advise the market of their intention to deliver a multiprocessor version of Nehalem. This is essentially a "vitality" announcement to ensure that the market, including investors, are aware that Intel has the next generation of high value processor in the works. To prove their point, Intel wanted to show a system up and running with the new parts. IBM provided an "eX5" based system. The audience was able to see the screen with 64 cores and 128 threads up and running. It was a great opportunity for IBM to show the market again that they are the leaders in multiprocessor x86 and are Intel's best partner in the MP space.
