We've got many requests pending on clear instructions for SMI-S provider combined with IBM Director 5.10/5.20.x.
As you expect we've sorted this out and created a procedure for succesfull monitoring of DS4700 DS3400 etc.
All DS series should be able to be monitored withing IBM Director so give it a try and share you experience with us.
Read more to see the instructions. Credits go to LSI for their excellent support.
First of all it is important that you have a server (VM or physical) with Windows 2003 (R2) 32BIT. (64BIT is not supported)
Once the server is up and running head to LSI (http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/external_raid/management_software/smis_provider/index.html?locale=EN&remote=1) and download the latest SMI-S provider for windows.
Now install the SMI-S software and add your storage devices when requested. Each controller has its own IP address, example:
// These entries are read and maintained by the SMI-S Provider.
// Please make only one entry per line, IP addresses and hostnames are valid.
10.0.3.6
10.0.3.7
Once this is done reboot the machine when requested.
Now after the reboot head to the IBM Director Console
Right-click in the center-pane and choose Add SMI-S storage device.
Type the IP address of the server with the SMI-S provider (10.0.0.20)
The Name Prefix can be anything you like.
Click OK and the devices wil be added to the console.
Afterwards you do not install the director agent on the server with the SMI-S provided, it will give you several error during installation which cause the CIMOM to screw up.
That's all, just bare in mind to take a fresh Windows installation without additional software (like the IBM Director Agent).
