Without saying IBM has withdrawn a number of licensed options for the DS3000. The functions of the withdrawn licensed features and options are now included in the base products and available to users at no additional charge.
Out-of-the-box a DS3200, DS3300 and DS3400 will now include 4 storage partitions, attachment license for 1-3 EXP3000 expansion units, and Windows and Linux on Intel Host Attach License.
Overview
IBM will withdraw from marketing the DS3200 Software Feature Pack, DS3300 Software Feature Pack, DS3400 Software Feature Pack, and EXP3000 Expansion License as shown below in the Product Number section. On or after that date, you can no longer order these licensed features and options.
The functions of the withdrawn licensed features and options are now included in the base products and available to users at no additional charge. By including the Software Feature Pack and EXP3000 Expansion Unit licenses in the base products, businesses will be able to grow storage capacity without buying additional licenses. This can help to lower total cost of ownership and can help enable non-disruptive growth by not having to install the additional licenses.

How to use these functions
In order to use these functions the latest microcode for the DS3x00 controllers needs to be installed.

This code is free of charge.
Until this microcode is part of new DS3x00 shipments please have the firmware code level checked on new DS3x00 arrivals and updated accordingly during installation of the system.

- Update to remove Software Feature Pack upgrade key as and optional feature and added to the base DS3000 product.
- Update to remove Expansion License. Expansion support will now be part of the base DS3000 product.
- Increased the number of storage partitions from 2 to 4 for the base DS3300 and DS3400 systems.
The DS3000 Interoperability Matrix has also been refresh.
